I just upgraded my imac 2.8 4Gig (last years model) which I have only had for two months to Snow Leopard.
Did the upgrade procedure but didn't really see any speed increase at all, except maybe folders opens a little faster now.

Is that the normal results or have you done a clean install on your imacs and got a better result?

Since SL just came out and I will be on that release for quite a while I am considering doing a clean install instead but would it be worth it?
Even though I have a limited number of apps install it will take a while but if a number of people have done a clean install and seen good improvements vs upgrade with less then I would do it.

Curious what the opinions you have on this.

    Thanks

SL is an under the hood upgrade, not a NOZ tank for your computer.

Yeah I know. But a number of people report about noticeable speed increases...

Some will see speed increases other will not. It all depends on your system and how you use it.

Even if you can't tell it is running better, just rest assured that it is. Maybe not faster, but it is running better.

So you would not recommend reinstalling it 'clean'?

what would you expect to see with a clean install? the major part of the upgrade is as synth3tik stated, "under the hood". I was quite happy with the increased speed of opening folders, apps, start-up, and shut-down. it wasn't anything that knocked me off the chair but like you, it was noticeable. if it works now with a little increase in speed, it should be all good. however, if you do a clean install don't expect some knock your socks off difference. you might want to glance through these,

I notice an overall "snappiness" in my system and some feature tweaks. I'm happy. :) BTW, I went the update route...
