Whoa what a stark difference. I wish I had this kind of discipline and then upgrades would be mind blowing lol. Anway just wanted to share some pictures because I thought the contrast in size, screen quality and camera module was quite startling.

1. How does he like the size jump?

2. Also with the 16 and 16 pros being so close in specs this year, why Pro Max for your dad instead of the 16 Plus? Will he actually use the camera features/120hz?

Regardless great upgrade.
he was taken aback at first with the size difference, but he is a tall guy with big hands so it didn't take long for him to get used to the size, and comfortable with it.

Yeah I thought about it and your second point does make a lot of sense... I guess I was thinking that I should get him top of the line because he will probably keep this phone for another 8+ years. But yeah he would have been perfectly fine with the 16.

Your dad must be well happy and thankful for having you 😀. Question, how is he adapting to the lack of home button. I remember most my friends and folks got really frustrated initially.

Oh yeah that was probably the biggest challenge lol. It's more muscle memory than anything else.... He told me he spent all weekend forgetting he had to swipe around rather than pressing a button... But he said its getting better as the muscle memory is starting to kick in.

iPhone 6 - September 19, 2014

If he had since release day, it was used for more than 10 years [with breaks in between for battery replacement and other repairs?]

Glad he is liking the upgrade.

My parents both have iPhone 8s and after showing them my older 11 and my newer 15P they dont want to upgrade. 🤦‍♀️
🤦‍♂️

At a certain age change gets too overwhelming. Their newer car is full of tech and they absolutely hate it.

Although they went from a 2018 MacBook Air to a M2 MacBook Air a month ago and they like it. To me the difference is probably more then they even notice.

There is a feature in the accessibility menu to turn on the virtual home button. My dad has it on his 15 PM and he loves it. It drives me crazy when I need to do work with his phone though.

Update: found it. it is called Assistive Touch (https://support.apple.com/en-ca/111794)

Must feel like such a huge upgrade for your old man.

I'm still rocking an XR and holding out as long as possible. Hoping to get a similar feeling when I do finally upgrade. Think I'm good for a couple of years yet.

He got it a year after release... and had one battery replacement during its lifetime.

The 6+ was such a cool upgrade from the 5s.

OP, thanks for sharing!! Very cool to see the differences.

All this post does is make me yearn for a phone the size of that iPhone 6. 😭

Still rockin' the original 2016 iPhone SE. Perfect size, fits easily in pocket, real home button remains a treat, cell phone reception great, apps are speedy, camera fine, etc. use it for all manner of things, including astronomy simulations, ebook reading, small spreadsheets and databases, playing various word and math games, note taking, todos, calendar, etc. No complaints whatsoever.

My iPod Touch 6th generation handles even more of all that — that still remains a magical, lightweight, svelte device.

I have big hands, yet still reach for it rather than a 3rd iPhone 2022 that also own. That 2022 is cumbersome to hold, even uncomfortable, and tiring. Still haven’t gotten used to the haptic fake button.

I can't even imagine handling an iPhone 16 Pro Max — I’d need a carrying case just to schlep that around. Certainly wouldn't fit in my front shirt pocket, pants pocket, bathrobe pocket, or windbreaker pocket as the iPhoneSE DOES.

Nevertheless, I get the appeal of a big phone, especially if it's your primary daily driver and primary means of web browsing and photo taking. I do most of my web browsing on an iPad and Mac and take most of my photos with a Canon digicam, the SX720 with 40x zoom. Still, I also do some of both with my iPhone SE 2016!

Your Dad has to be amazed by the change in his phone. It'd be interesting to read more about his adjustments to the new HUGE phone, but also what he particularly likes and what he finds key improvements!

I mean… the SE3 is still available in exactly that size.

I’m assuming you mean a top spec or pro level phone.
I did mean a top spec phone, indeed. I actually own the SE3 and it's one of my favorite phones I've ever owned. Truth be told I never felt like I was missing a thing -- OLED, cameras, what have you -- and I'm a techie so I feel like that's saying something. The last of it's kind.

That's so awesome. I wish I had picked up the original SE back when it was on store shelves. I owned an iPhone 5 for 4-5 years so I'm very familiar with that form factor.

I was just telling another commenter (you probably see it above) that I own an SE 2022 and I never felt like I was missing a thing with that device. I know all about OLED, cameras, high refresh rate screens, yet that phone just felt RIGHT. I loved it. Still do, even though I'm not using it right now.
