Long story short...

Not real world much difference in devices for my use case. Don't play many games or use the pencil. Both have same non-laminated screen and approximate size/weight.

My air is (and will remain) on 10.3. Which is still quite snappy.

Sure the 2018 was quicker and could do dual screen... but there were compromises ... I struggled with IOS11 and missed the hardware screen rotation switch on the Air.

So I returned my ipad 2018 on the 13th Day. I am back on the Air and don't miss it.

Sooner or later I will need to upgrade. I know.

I think that's why Apple doesn't really make a big deal about the refreshes anymore. The form factor is about as good as it's going to get. You do get more RAM with the 2018 version vs the Air 1, but that may not matter to some.
