Just a simple neutral question folks...

We know it's thinner, lighter, faster with FaceTime and SmartCovers.

Question is why are you upgrading...
Was it too heavy before, too thick, did a specific App run too slow, etc?
I've got an iPad 1 and I like it very much. I'm not upgrading because the upgrade price (new iPad 2 price - selling price iPad 1) is too high for an update (definitely 200 or 300 euros).

If I were updating it would especially be because it has more RAM, which is better for browsing and multitasking (on iPad 1, apps in the background tend to close rather quickly).

Things I could imagine for others: weight, slimmer form factor, apps are going to take advantage of the multicore processor, graphical power (Epic Games has already expressed their interest and said that this extra graphical power would be great) and of course video chatting.

Im in college and used my iPad a lot I can't tell you have many times it saved my ass. I think that any upgrade is essential be it speed or portability had it not changed at all maybe I would have rethought selling iPad 1. I also see it as a one time investment of 500 dollars with a return of at least 400 a year letting me upgrade for 100 $. Its cheaper than buy a second one even if I waited to save up for iPad 3 or 4.

I can't afford to upgrade my computer every year. I can afford to sell my iPad and upgrade every year. I ended up using my iPad a good amount more than my MacBook. I like Apple's products, and given how much I used my first iPad, I think it's a good purchase.

No I don't need it, but I want it and I can afford it.

same here, whats the point of life if you don't get the things you want?

Because my iPad's value is falling like a rock. I can sell it now, add $200 and enjoy the new features of the iPad 2. Then do the same next year.

OR

I can keep my iPad for another year and spend $400 next year on the iPad whatever and enjoy none of the newness.

So either way I'm out $400. Makes sense to at least enjoy doing so a little more.

The ipad 2 is great, but some do have the itch to upgrade so bad.
It's a condition. If you don't have it, consider yourself lucky.

Now that's a specific reason, great answer.

Been a couple others too, but many are being defensive or general.

Let's hear more specific answers like that...
Surely it would make sense to wait and see what apps, if any appear that will not run on iPad 1. That's what I'll do. Certainly no need to upgrade in any hurry

Im not upgrading, cameras do absolutely nothing for me, my iPhone already has a great camera, and I can use FaceTime on it. Who would want to take pictures with somthing that large? My iPad is plenty fast, and I don't have OCD about RAM in a device that been designed to use it efficiently. Photo booth is a non seller for me too, I hardly use it on my Mac, and it would get boring after 5 min. Form factor isn't that big of an issue for me, big deal Johnny Ive does what he always does, make things thinner, and lighter, all they really did was get rid of the flat edge around the bezel. The screen is the same, and iPad 2 really can't do anything the original iPad can't do. I'd rather same my money for something new and exciting, not just a rehashed version of something I already have.

I'm upgrading ours so I can FaceTime with my wife while I'm on the road. She doesn't have an iPhone or iTouch, and I use a Mac Pro, and have never dropped the cash on a webcam.

Makes so much sense thanks for pointing that out

Mirroring. Plain and simple. Yes I know I can get that on my iPad by jail breaking but I don't want to jailbreak. I am perfectly happy in Apple's walled garden.

Because the ipad 2 is much improved over the original in every way. Also you can get a pretty good value for selling the ipad now to pay off getting the 2nd. So your not really spending much in the end.

If you wait until the ipad 3 to upgrade, you won't get nearly as much for the original iPad on ebay or craiglist.

Ok, I'll just be honest...

There is no real need for me to update. For what I do, most of the time, the iPad is fine. The iPad 2 will, though, be faster and better at it... and I like new shiny toys... so I'll likely get it.

Does that mean I need to update? Nah. I just want to because I want to, and I'm ok with that. :)
