Your moms butthole
Okay I hate the Apple Inc guys right now. I'm like 95% sure they broke my laptop while they were supposed to be 'fixing' it. I took it in a couple weeks ago because only 5 keys on the keyboard weren't working. When I picked it up, the entire laptop was DOA. I think they really messed something up... but either way, of course they're blaming me, and they're blaming the logic board.

So all I can do right now is move forward.

If I can, and depending what I see from you guys, I'm going to attempt upgrading from the 2012 2.5ghz i5 to the 2012 2.9ghz i7 (since I'll be removing a logic board either way, it appears). It's supposed to be a legendary upgrade for those who can pull it off delicately, and I've successfully done every upgrade to my laptop so far.

Is there any special thing I'll have to do here? Is there anything that wouldn't match up exactly on the i7 as it did on the i5? Have any of you performed this upgrade before? If so, how much of a difference did it make?

Let me know everyone. Thanks. I'm really grateful for all your insight.

I’m confused, you picked it up from them and it didn’t work? So they didn’t fix it properly? Why did you accept it if it wasn’t fixed?

We’re talking about a Apple Store right?

I tried not to. It's a long story. I was in the store for hours. And on the phone with corporate for hours. They're basically scumbags, is the short answer. To be honest, I'm so livid about it, I'm just trying not to talk about it too much right now because I'm sooo ****ing angry that I feel like if I talk about it, I'll have a ****ing heart attack. And I'm not unhealthy. I'm just livid.

OP, your title isn’t super specific. Do you have the 2012 13” or 15” unibody (non retina), or the 2012 13” or 15” Retina model?

I believe every MacBook above with the exception of the 2012 Unibody 13” (sold through 2016) is listed as ’obsolete’ which means they are not able to receive hardware service from Apple technicians or Authorized Service Providers, with "no exceptions."

I have done this upgrade to my 2012 13-inch MBP. Just follow the iFixit repair guide and you will be okay. The repair guide lists all the necessary tools and shows step-by-step what has to be done. I still have my laptop and have recently installed MacOS 11 Big Sur on it. No issues at all with this computer :)

Sir. I do have the 2012 unibody 13”. To be clear, it’s the A1278 model. So it should still be covered under warranty even according to yourself.
