    Hi All,

A friend brought in her new 4S today but its not activated yet. She has a 3GS which she has not upgraded to iOS5 yet. Should she upgrade to iOS5 get her iCloud established and then activate and sync her 4S?

Looking for the most efficient way to have her run the upgrade?

    Thanks for your suggestions!

I would suggest just activating the new phone. She can restore the backup from whatever version iOS she's on now, it won't "downgrade" the 4S. No sense spending the time on the iOS upgrade of her 3GS if she doesn't need it on iOS5 for any other reasons.

I would say yes. I just upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s and I had iOS 5 on my 4 and I had it backed up thru iCloud. When I got my 4s I did a final iCloud backup on my 4 then started up the 4s and restored from iCloud backup, and my 4s is exactly as I left my 4. Really amazing! Even my ringtones are intact! The only thing is you have to re-enter your passwords...which is a good thing.
