I have just come across a Power Mac B&W with a 300MHZ processor. Someone gave me a G4 400MHZ CPU. I was wondering if I can put the g4 in the B&W

If its a G4 ZIF. Does it have like 100 pins underneath it. If so, you just unhook the little metal tab holding in the G3 and then take it off. Then just replace. If you put up a picture I could tell.

You'd also have to apply the firmware patch FIRST (runs only in OS 9) to remove the code that apple put in to keep this upgrade from working. Look at OWC's tech center for patcher.....
nope, wont work......that's a sawtooth daughter card. It has a different type of connector than the older yosemite mobo's did.
it was written well before OS X came out, and was never updated to run in OS X. and it wont run in classic mode either

no "may" to it, if you wanna G4 in a B&W, ya GOTTA do da patch, in OS 9.xx only. Been there, done that, many many times
ZIF = ZERO INSERTION FORCE = drop in/lock in socket. That is the key to look for when shopping for a B&W upgrade.......
an agp powermac is the oldest model thats really viable to upgrade, the pci version (both sawtooth) had the same (zif) as the G3 b&w, once you upgrade everything in a sawtooth though, its usually cheaper to get a mirrordoor or a G5 lol, but fun to do nethertheless
