    I have a 2G unlocked and JB running 2.2

I've been searching... I got a few different answers so i was confused.
    I found this online:

    http://www.coderetard.com/2009/01/31/quickpwn-iphone-2g-221-custom-firmware-windows-and-mac/

1- Download the iPhone 2G iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw from us (MD5 sum = 78c77509086458742d06be479cbfce40). This includes the 4.6 bootloader which is a known unlockable version. It also contains Cydia and Installer. The custom boot logos were excluded.
2 - Connect your 2G iPhone via USB cable and put it in DFU mode. To put it in DFU mode, turn the phone off. Hold power and home together for precisely 10 seconds. Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized. At no point will the display come on. If this doesn’t work, try to press and hold power only. Keep holding power. As soon as you see any display on the screen of any sort press and hold the home button. Hold power and home together for precisely 10 seconds. Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
3 - Launch iTunes and shift-click on the Restore button (option click for Mac users). Then browse to the custom restore 2.2.1 firmware you downloaded from us and let iTunes do the rest.
Remember, this shortcut is for previously pwned iPhones only. You don’t need QuickPwn to upgrade to 2.2.1 if you can get your hands on a custom restore firmware like ours.

Is this really all i need to do?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Do you mean update to 2.21 in itunes?
    That seems easiest, I guess.
I have quickpwn on my Mac but never used it.

Yeah, you can just update to 2.2.1 in iTunes (it will keep the unlock) then to Jailbreak just quickpwn it with the latest version (i.e quickpwn 2.2.5? i think it is...).

    Done.

    GREAT, THANKS!
I was considering not Jailbreaking this time, to see how much faster it is w/o JB. But I need it unlocked...

    I'll get to it.

    That was extremely painless.
I lost my Cydia apps, but no biggie.
I'm not gonna JB right away.
    Everything seems faster w/o JBing.
    Maybe i'm crazy?

It's probably just because you've upgraded to a new firmware and everything is fresh.

Glad it all worked out :)

Depends, do you trust that site? Downloading an already customized firmware from an untrusted site could contain potentially malicious code.

    That's what I was thinking...
