I am upgrading my MBP (early 2011 13-inch) to a new MBP (probably retinal). I had swapped out my stock HDD for a SSD, but before I get rid of the old one, I need to know how to make sure the new MBP will function as if it was just as the old one was (seamless transfer). In other words, I need to put the orig. HDD back in...and then know that the SSD will have what I need it to have so that when I put it in the new MBP, it will start up and behave as if I never switched computers.
If I use time machine and do a backup on the SSD (I have been doing this every so often), and then pull the SSD...if I then put it in the new MBP, will it behave as if the new computer was just like the old (other than have all the hardware benefits of the new one)?
AND, if I then replace the orig. HDD into the old MBP, will I be able to restore the old MBP to factory conditions. I am in the jungles of PNG and have a VERY weak internet connection, so won't be able to download anything of more than a MB or two, so if I have to have a good internet connection to do this...well, that WILL be a problem.
