I'm looking to upgrade my 2020 MBP M1 and was pretty much decided on the the base M5 Air.

Through work schemes, there's an extra boost on gift cards today meaning I could get the M5 MPB base for £244 more. Is it worth paying the extra or just going for the Air?

I have an iPad pro but the Macbook serves as my main computer. Used for general browsing, occasional media watching (Netflix, YouTube, Sky) and some photo editing. What should I do?

Need to make a decision today before offer ends.

Thanks in advance.

Powerwise, the Air is more than plenty enough. If you like the niceties though (screen refresh rate, speakers, etc) than just jump up to the Pro. Since you're talking about keeping it for 5-6 years I'd just go for it on that alone. I was using my 2021 MBP base model and went whole hog, did the M5 Max since I intend to keep it for some time. Any M5 chip is going to be a massive jump compared to our M1 Pro chips.
