Upgrading from .ipsw - At risk of losing my data?

If I backup my iPhone 4 that let's say is running 4.1, and then do a restore from an ipsw file of let's say 4.2, will I think be able to pull my data back in from my backup? Or will there be a problem as the backup is from a previous version of iOS?

That will work fine.

It's the same as doing a normal upgrade you are just specifying the file to use
