well up an coming. i am new to mac cut me some slack.

it doesnt matter if its a mac or a pc, a hard drive is a hard drive. shouldnt make a difference.

according to your OP, it looks like you're just shopping and dont have a mbp yet. i would just keep everything as is stock before you decide to upgrade anything.

He was referring to your initial post. You said you weren't sure which MBP to buy, the low end one with standard hdd and memory or upgraded. Doesn't really matter though. Good luck with your purchase, whichever route you go.

It was mentioned before you need a SATA compatible HD - what speed SATA? (for 3rd gen mbp)

SATA is also advertised as Serial ATA. It is the replacement of IDE/ATA and 3 generations of SATA exist. They are:
SATA 1 (the number 1 is not used much): the past standard that replaced IDE/ATA
SATA 2 (3.0GBPS): the current standard
SATA 3 (6.0GBPS): the future but not currently popular or used on the MBP

The current MBP uses SATA2 (3.0GBPS) and has used it for a while. Some drives may also be called SATA 2.x (x between the number 2-7) and IIRC they will all work fine, provided they are SATA 2.
