Hello, i just bought a new hard drive for my MacBook Unibody 2.4 GHZ. i use time machine on it, but with the new hard drive, i do not want to do a complete restore of my system, i want to just chose what to put on it. would it be possible to switch hard drives, do a clean install of Mac OSX, and then use my old time machine back up, with my new hard drive, to get back the files i need? or will i have to back up all of those on my external before hand?

I've done it both ways. I took my SSD and installed OSX, then asked migration assistnat to only take my docs and such. I left the applications alone because with the size of the SSD I have to be more selective of course due to space.

Hope that answers your question ... kind of.
