What do people do when they want to share data across both windows and os x? When you open WMP on windows, does the same collection of music appear as in itunes?

If you're talking boot camp, if your Windows Partition is bellow 32GB, you CAN share files ETC, so iTunes MAY work multi-OS.
I believe anything that's like a Windows Emulator, such as Parallel, has it's own area, so that Mac doesn't get effected by Windows Virus's.
