I have an Ipad 3 and the Ipad Air at home. My 10 yr-old son was using the 3, but it’s gotten so slow that he is now fighting with me over the Air. :)

The Air is also a little sluggish, I bought it on release so I’m looking to upgrade and give it to my son. I mainly browse the web and play games on the Air, and occasionally watching videos. Should I get the Air 2, the smaller Pro, or wait for next year?

I won’t need the stylus or smart keyboard as I don’t do any work on the ipad. But having more RAM and CPU power on the Pro is always welcome. I like to browse with multiple tabs open, and some of my games take a long time to load.

The 9.7 Pro is your best bet. It's more
Updated with newer fewtures. However, it's been reported there will be an iPad refresh likely in March 2017.

The pro is probably your best bet if only for the fantastic class screen and brilliant speakers, only you can know how long you want to wait.

I'm finally ready to upgrade my iPad 3 and face a similar decision. I think I'm going to wait for Black Friday deals before making up my mind. If there isn't too much difference, I'll probably go with the 9.7 Pro, but if not, I'm sure the Air 2 should serve me well for a few years with my modest requirements (mostly just browsing, no games).

The Air 2 is still a beast. If you don't need pencil support then go for it. They both have 2GB of ram so longevity will not be a problem. I wasn't impressed with the the Pro so that's why I'm still rocking the Air 2. I still believe that the Air 2 is the better value for the money. Maybe if the Pro actually lives up to its name I'll consider upgrading but until then I'm not missing out.

For most, I would say buy what you need now and don't worry about what might be around the corner. In your specific situation, it doesn't sound like you have a specific need and I'd advise to wait.

I wouldn't recommend the Air 2 to anybody right now - not with the Pro out there.

I have an air 2 and it's still great. Going strong after two years. But, if I were buying new to last me a few more years, I'd get the pro.

The Pro isn't going to last much longer than the iPad Air 2, so you have to decide if the price difference is worth it for a few extra features. Even now, I'm not sure I could spend an extra $200 and get the Pro over the Air 2.

OP's usage sounds pretty basic and I think he'd be more than happy with the iPad Air 2. I recommend it over the iPad Pro to most people for the savings alone.

No other iPad has aged better than the Air 2 after two years. That said, it would be wise to look for big sales next month.

I would wait till holiday sales if you can manage it. I personally would recommend the Air 2 unless the cost difference is insignificant for you, or you really need a stylus (sounds like you Don't).
