Hi I'm running iphone 5s with iOS 9 latest version and att phone

I will be upgrading this iPhone 5s to 6s with different number

I would like to copy all my texts from my older iPhone to the newer 6s

What's the best way to transfer messages? Thanks!

If you make an iCloud or an iTunes backup and then restore from that backup that should transfer the messages over.

That's correct. That's basically part of the reasons why backups exist, to be able to take your data from one device to a another/newer device.
