Upgrading iPhone from 8GB to 16GB?

I've had my black 8GB iPhone since it's release date on July 11th. There are numerous reasons I could go to Apple and request an exchange (dust under glass, etc.) Can I just go and request an upgrade/exchange and pay the extra $100 to get the white 16 gb?

Anyone had any success trying this out? 😕

I doubt that they will allow you to that, since they will be giving you a refurbished 8g. Would you be willing to pay the extra $100 and recieve a refurbished 16g white? I wouldnt.
