i want to update my jailbroken iphone from 2.1 to 2.2.1, but i do not want to have to resync all my music, re-download all my cydia related items, or any similar things. last time i tried following a guide on this step by step, i got screwed over and ended up losing 500mb of disk space and having to resync everything. horrible experience.

too bad. You have to do all that stuff anyways. It something that comes with jailbreaking. I think you should consider aptbackup for next time. It will save you a lot of trouble.

thing is, i tried aptbackup last time, and it didnt work. i installed it before upgrading, pushed the backup button, made a new backup in itunes, updated firmware, jailbroke, installed aptbackup again, hit restore, and nothing happened.

Did you set up as a new phone or did you restore from a previous backup? If you set it up as a new phone it won't work. It has always worked great for me. :D

try appbackup if aptbackup didn't work for you. But having everything erased is something that happens everytime you upgrade/rejailbreak. It can't be avoided. There aren't really any new features on 2.2.1, you might as well just say on 2.2 if you are so worried.

im on 2.1, only reason i want to upgrade is because no apps from the appstore work with 2.1. i have 13gb of music which is why im making such a big deal about it

That sucks. You should just run quickpwn late and night, and let it resync your stuff while you are sleeping then you don't have to wait around for it. :)

It's just the same as last time, just update to 2.2.1 in itunes and then run quickpwn. All the details are here.

yes. the 500 mb is a partion on the hard drive, and it will be there no matter what. You can adjust the size if you are using pwnage tool instead of quickpwn. But it doesn't really matter anyway.

That's great! Upgrading isn't as hard as some people believe it to be. :)

Err, so I'm a little confused. At the start of the thread you make it sound like you have to re-sync everything after updating from jailbreak to jailbreak firmware, but then at the end you sound like it's easier than that. Can I just go from JB 2.2 -> official 2.2.1 -> Quickpwn it to JB 2.2.1 without having to load everything back up?

I was going to skip doing 2.2.1 since it seems minor, but a few app updates I have are requiring 2.2.1 now, grrrr.
