Is anyone else upgrading just because they're eligible to upgrade after a year of installment payments either through their carrier or Apple? There's nothing in the new phones that I'm dying for. Love the gold color, but was possibly considering upgrading just because I can and it wouldn't cost anything. Why are you guys upgrading if you are?

Yep. Literally the only reason to upgrade from the X, its not worth it at all if buying outright.

I'm on the upgrade plan and not upgrading. Very disappointed because I was really looking forward to preorder.
What's your reasoning behind not upgrading? Just not worth it due to the lack of new features?

Hubby is doing it because of the upgrade... I'm doing it because I have to have the latest and greatest! (and I want the bigger phone!)

Yeah, I'm mainly not excited about the new features. It doesn't seem like anything more special than the current X I have. I'll keep my current phone and upgrade next year.

Do you not have to pay the sales tax on the new device? Regardless of whether your monthly payment remains the same?

Both my wife and I are a part of the iUP. It's a mix for me - both the upgrade plan and the Max. I'm going to speak to my wife tonight to see what she wants to do. Heck, she may go to the R only because it comes in Red, lol. I'm of the opinion that we're going to make payments on her X so maybe make them on the XS (or XR).

personally it isn't costing me any more... so there is no incentive to not upgrade.

Of course it is. If you’re on any payment plan, you basically lose all the money you’ve paid towards the phone thus far.

Unless you’re lucky enough to sell your current phone at whatever price you originally paid for it, you will lose money.

Some people have to think before posting.

Yes. Sales tax for full amount of device due at purchase/pre-order.

Toying with the idea since I'm still using a 7 Plus on the upgrade plan. Didn't like the X last year so I returned it. While it's technically 'free', I would still have to pay sales tax on the purchase and buy a case so there's $160+ expense right off the bat.

Yes. But you have to have made 12 payments on the iPhone Upgrade program. The iPhone X has been out for 11 months. Back and forth between Apple and Citizen's One. It takes 72 hours to post a payment over the phone and you can't make a payment on the web if you're current. I have called twice and gotten 2 different answers on whether or not I'll be able to preorder at midnight on Friday even though I've completed the approval process. Has anyone else had experience with having to make a twelfth payment at preorder? Apple says you can't do that.

I would be upgrading regardless since I am on iUP but if I wasn't, I'd be upgrading for the Dual SIM. So glad TMobile is on board w/ the eSIMs and now I don't need a 2nd phone for my UK #.

That and I really don't like the 8+ size. I like the screen size but I had to put one of those loop things on the back of the case because I couldn't hold it :(. Hopefully the Xs will be better in hand.

Same. I'm on a one year upgrade plan from verizon for 3 years now. It's my vice and not a big one compared to others but I do wish Apple had more to offer X users this year. Oh well sounds like next year should be fairly big with hardware changes AND the first major iOS user interface update since iOS 7 rumored.

Yeah, I made an extra payment through ATT NEXT so I'd be eligible a couple weeks ago. Still trying to decide.

Not sure if I should go for the max or not. Coming from the X, I a, feeling like it’s a bit small... dual sim is nice. I just need to figure out this $95 still owed on my Att. Do I pay now or can we do it when we checkout on the Apple store? Don’t want any hiccups Friday.

Next years Iphone will be a very intersrting one---not too sure what they can do to it now that we have the bigger-all screen X, All I can see is internal upgrades!

Hopefully a redesign, though I could see a repeat of what happened with the 6, 6S, 7.

Just login to your account, click upgrade, and pay off the amount that makes you eligible to upgrade. That's definitely the easiest way of making sure you'll be able to get your preorder in on time.
