This is my first post, so I am sorry if some of the topics I mention were already discussed in past, but in spite of intensive searching I couldn’t find conclusive solution for my problems .
I have 2 Macs Pro 5.1 and decided to use their parts to build one super Mac Pro. One of them is 8 core 2.4 ghz 2010 Westemere, and the other 12 core 3.46 2012. Unfortunately the older one is in a better shape, so I decided to use its case and some other parts like graphic card , hard drives etc. My first idea was to swap CPUs, and I did try this option. It worked. My 2010 Mac boots properly with new 3.46 CPU, but when I check specs it shows as mid-2010 not mid-2012. From this I understand that the information about Mac’s model is stored somewhere on a logic board. On the other hand both backplane boards should be identical AFAIK. Does anyone know if this data is kept in Bios (chip?) , and is it possible to change it? If not, I would have to swap all the hardware which is quite a lot of work.
I also found Samsung MZ-HPV5120 PCIe AHCI 512 gb disk, so the question is which PCI slot should it go in and how to make system accept it as internal HD (at the moment it shows as external)?
Also I am not sure what kind of speed acceleration one can expect from this disk in Mac Pro in comparison to ordinary Samsung SSD HD. Btw, is this M.2 or NVME disk?
