Could argue m1 to m2 was a nice boost not necessarily from m1 to m2 but rather screen size increase and brightness boost / MagSafe cable charging to have two functional USB-C ports one not occupied by charging / design change but

m2 to m4 is a bit of a nothing burger, specs boasting aside (and 16gb base, which is nice but will always be the case moving forward now)
agreed it was a much easier decision - the only reason why i am doing it this round is that i know this time next year or when the m5? comes out it'll be worth even less on a trade.

The M1-M3 Airs have USB4/Thunderbolt 3. The difference is that to be called Thunderbolt 4, the ports need to support video the way the M4 does. There’s no difference in port speed otherwise, so it’s really not a very significant distinction.
I mess them up! Thanks for the clarification. I remember Thunderbolt 3 does not support USB 4, it's Thunderbolt 4 that begin to be compatible with USB 4, but somehow apple managed to make M1 to M3 support Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4 simultaneously.
