Upgrading Macbook to Macbook Pro - move hard drive?

I'm upgrading from an old white Macbook (Intel) to Macbook Pro that has different graphics hardware etc. Can I just take out the old hard drive and replace the new one in the Pro with it? I'm concerned about whether OS X can recognise the new hardware and boot and operate as usual.
