Hey there,

Sorry for the very newb sounding question, I come from the world of MacBook Pro 2009 - 2012, so understanding what M.2 SSD's are compatible with a MacBook Pro 15 retina 2015 model seems a little less straightforward...

So basically, I'm looking to get the cheapest 960gb/1tb SSD M.2 out there... to install in a MBP 15 2015. Now to my knowledge, only a select few M.2's worked before 2017, then Apple released High Sierra and since then... 3rd party M.2's have been allowed.

However, I also noticed that M.2's have different form factors... so I need to make sure the M.2 I purchase is the correct form factor. I see that you can buy little adaptors to potentially insert other form factors into the MacBook Pro... but also saw that by doing that, you can mess up your MacBook in regards to it being able to sleep... which isn't something i wanna do.

So yeah, basically I've kind of been looking on the internet for a simple don't do guide when purchasing a M.2 SSD for this MacBook, but also a list of ones which are okay. For example, if the M.2 fits into the slot... does that mean it will work? Or is there potentially some other technological reason as to why it's not. I've heard you need an NVME one, and I don't really know what that is or what that means or if it's still true... i dunno.

So yeah, I'll probably look back at this post one day and go, 'oh god what a newb'... but yeah, I don't wanna pay loads of money and end up with the wrong one, so i'm asking one of you guys for a simple guide :) Thanks a lot in advance!
