Just before the release of latest 2018, I bought a brand new Macbook Pro mid 2015 for a deal of $1500 on BestBuy ( 16GB, 256 GB PCIe X4 SSD, 2.2 GHZ Quad-core i7 )

I am running out of space very soon and planning to upgrade the SSD to 1TB
I am really confused of the pricing on the internet. Looking for a PCIe x4 SSD which performs equally or better than the my current SSD

OWC AX Pro ? Did anyone try it?
Please suggest the best fit for my new baby Macbook Retina Mid-2015 model ( A1398 )

I have used OWC - Macsales.com in the past with pretty good results. I think this is the correct drive...

However, I would call them and make sure it is correct for your specific model to be sure. 1.800.275.4576

Also, if you want to clone your current drive and then use the existing 256 as an external, I am pretty sure there is a kit for that. Ask them about it.

Good luck with the upgrade!

I dropped idea of OWC after reading multiple reviews on amazon about overheating
I am thinking of investing in external SSD instead like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C8Y31G2

Don't see any external SSD casing available for it. Your opinions would help. Would I be able to attach it to my MBP and install a Virtual machine on it using parallels

I'm not sure if the OWC drive will allow for the updates to the bootrom and SMC with OS upgrades so it is something that needs to be taken into consideration.

The drive can only run with High Sierra so I recommend updating to the latest version of High Sierra before installing the new drive. This will ensure that the MBP is running the latest bootrom and SMC version.
