Apple rolled out its new PowerMac lineup, what, a few months ago? If you absolutely do not need a PowerMac right at this minute, I'd say wait. I believe it's always better to buy immediately after speed bump or revision--that way, you know that you bough the best for your money for the next 6 months.

I've heard some people with PowerMacs having problem with WarCraft III when the battle gets hot and heavy, but the recent patches released by Blizzard might go a long way in fixing that. However, since Mac games are always made as an afterthought (the software companies go where their markets are), I'm of the opinion that performance of Mac games will always lag their PC counterparts. Thus, this is not even a hardware issue per se as much as how the games are developed.

Anyhow, if you do need a computer right away, by all means get one.

I just had a cool idea. Instead of spending the $2300 for a refurb dual ghz mac, ill get a refurg dual 867 for $1500, and use the rest for a PC gaming box? Then the mac would have decent performance, and I could have a friend over and do multiplayer(I already do to an extent, with my g4 and my laptop, but neither has really good performance). Does that seem like a better use of the money? or simply buy the processor upgrade for $800 and get the gaming PC, and wait for new stuff for a complete G4 (or whatever) upgrade? I know the dp 867 doesnt have a superdrive, but it has the second cd bay, and i can buy the new DVR 105 dvd burner when I get to film school.

That seem like the way to go to me.
