I have a 2014 27 inch iMac It has served me well and still works well but I know I have to consider a replacement. Any suggestions. I don’t really like laptops and like having a large screen. Finances are limited but I would rather buy something new of only a year or two old. All comments appreciated

Options available in that time frame are used M1/M3 iMac. It has a smaller 24-inch display, but its retina and really nice. Might lessen the loss of the 27-inch iMac display. I certainly could not go from 27-inch Retina display to something smaller and non-retina. You might be able to get away with used Mac mini M1/M2/M4 with 4K display. I could not.

This is what I would be looking at. Lots of power and macOS support for some years yet with M-processors. Saving a lot on a cheap display, perhaps using the money on external storage, if needed.

I went from a 2020 27” iMac to an M4 24” iMac and thought I would really miss the 27” screen. I actually found I got used to the smaller screen fairly quickly and find it fine for me (far better than a laptop size screen).
However the base M4/M3 chip (the only option on the 24” iMac) is not very impressive if you are a power user. If your processing needs are light/moderate then that is a non-issue. Get no less than 16GB ram unless you are a very basic user.
