I have no desire to incorporate any iDevices into the equation.
Then forget about it, not gonna happen.

My movies live on an External HD. I've tried, not successfully, to stream them to my TV in the past. HD films are always the issue. My bigger desire is to upload my films to a cloud service and then somehow access them to watch on my TV buffer-free.
That's like saying you're having problems lifting a dumbbell of a certain weight, so you're gonna try lifting a barbell with the same weight instead. Not gonna help...

If I understanding this correctly, Plex requires you to have your computer up and running with the file(s) that you want to watch. If that's the case, I could just connect a laptop to my TV.
So you want to use your ATV3 for watching your movies without adding another device into the equation and not having a computer running? How about the next time you buy something, you take five minutes to read about it before deciding if it's for you or not?

AirPlay works great with iTunes + ATV3 but the video file needs to be iTunes compatible. Ideally I could find a solution that plays all types of files without any need to convert.
Sell the ATV3, buy an ATV2 or a WD TV Live.

Are some of you guys serious? The attitude some of you are aiming towards me for absolutely no reason is absurd. Show some ********** respect. I'll figure this out for myself. I want nothing to go with this thread anymore. Some of you are complete s**ts. Jesus.

You don't have to figure it out for yourself, because all the answers you need and want are in this thread.

If local streaming is full of buffering I cant see how using the cloud will magically make your connection better......

Vudu has a disc to digital service so you're favorite movies from BDs or DVDs are stored in their cloud. I'm finding it easier to watch movies on vudu once the initial set-up phase is complete, which can be a pain (linking different accountes - ie. Flixter, etc.). I haven't tried the disc to digital, but it's probably not an option if you've already encoded everything yourself.
