uploading cds on new macbook?

I was told that when you first get your Mac, you need to run the CDs that come with it. But they already have OSX and the applications on the computer, so what's the point? Is this faulty info?

Just turn on and play!

Some users like to reinstall the operating system and removing options they don't use to save space. Additional system language and printer drivers are a favorite.
