Upper and lowercase in a FAT32 Volume name

Changing the icon by:

$ /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a C "/Volumes/VolumeName/"

doesn't require any hex dump or what so ever either, but I'd assume your method works just fine for setting the drive icon also.

...or futzing with the command line (sorry- I am lazy and proud of it!)

I'm trying to rename mine too, but I have a bit of a different offset. But I noticed that in your hexdump you had 00000040 and 010000e0 but the offset you do in terminal is 0x47 and 0x10000e0. How'd you get to the latter?
