Full disclosure I haven't received any shipment information, nor have I been charged for my watch yet, but I am trying to figure out my own logistics and I would rather not rearrange my evening to wait for a delivery I have to sign for and the idea of having the watch pre-signed for and sitting on my front doorstep makes me cringe.

So I am hoping someone has done this... Once I get my notification from UPS My Choice for the delivery will having them hold the watch at a Customer Care center so I can simply go in the morning and get my package cause any issues? There has been a report of changing the ship location to a UPS Care Center in another thread caused the shipment to be returned to sender and it spooked me.

Has anyone done this and can report that it is okay?

Thanks!

No issues, I did the same thing with my watch. Once there was movement on the tracking page, I called UPS and asked that my watch be held at my local UPS Customer Center – walked in, gave them my ID, walked out two minutes later with my watch.

You don't have to wait for the driver all day to deliver it, don't have to worry about missing it, and don't have to worry about it sitting outside.

I honestly can't bear to relive the details, but after a UPS-cancelled hold for pick up and subsequent to a UPS-refusal to leave the package for me in spite of previous pre-sign sent me on a 2 hour journey to a UPS Care Center, I wouldn't try this.

I'm in New York by the way, so that may have something to do with the miserable experience.

Hah. Totally this. Been there.

I've done the hold thing with UPS many times, never really had a problem.

BUT:

If you live near one of the apple distribution depots for this rollout you might not see movement till early the same morning of shipment. If you don't change the delivery order before it gets scanned into the last location before delivering it to you it will get put on the truck and ride around all day. Then you have to wait an extra day to get it at their center unless you call into the depot and are very lucky and polite.

EXACTLY!

Everyone has been jumping down my throat but every time I tried to simply call and ask (once I had a tracking number) to hold at nearest ups customer renter they always refused and insisted I waited for a an attempt.

My dad worked in DHL but the atmosphere is the same: the drivers here in this area are in a rush to beat the infamous tri state area traffic (Ever try driving on the BQE at 9 am) so they do not like to intercept the 'original' movement from pallet to truck and to out for delivery. They wannna just pack and go.

I'm gonna try to take a wfh day when I get a confirmed date. It's just easier that way :p

Thanks for the information. I don't live near a hub, and I may give this a try. I am in south Kansas so I am hoping the experience will be easy.

Do not change via my ups app

Ok so here is what MAY happen, I ordered 3 watches one for each of my family, all 3 were shipping for 4/24 delivery i changed all 3 via the my ups app on my phone. 2 of them made it to UPS and where held... sort of, when you do a change via the my ups app they process it as a change of address so when i did it for all 3, 2 of them made it past apples security flag (APPLE does not allow for change of delivery address via shipping company ONLY via APPLE), the 3rd one got flagged and late afternoon on the 23rd i got an exception alert from UPS "Lawnside, NJ, United States 04/23/2015 3:04 P.M. The receiver states the product was not ordered and has refused the delivery. / The package will be returned to the sender. "
when I called UPS they said it was flagged by Apple security due to change of address and there was nothing they could do, I had to wait for it to make it back to apple in CA and then it was FedEx back to me I just got it the 4/29.

IF You want to have it held for pickup, First call Apple and tell them as soon as it moves to prepping to shipping, it takes 24 hours to go from apple to UPS so it prob wont get to UPS on its own but as soon as Apple puts it in that will stop a security flag from apple, then call UPS have them Hold for pick up YOU MUST call and i would recommend waiting till its in route to your distro center (the 2 that made it to me where allready in route to my disto center when i did the hold)

You guys are making things much more difficult than they need to be. I've done this hundreds of times, including anything of value that I receive from Apple.

Wait for the tracking number to become active and select "change delivery". Choose the option that you want your package sent to a UPS location. The key here is you have to make sure you select a Customer Center and not a UPS store. If you choose a UPS store, your package will be delayed at least one day and who knows what else happens after that. That's it.

Like I said, I've done it this way hundreds of times without issue. No need to call Apple. No need to call UPS. Calling requires you to rely on a human to get your request in.

well, it worked great for me

On Tuesday, I got charge and received shipping notices from both the Apple Store and UPS Choice. Then I just went to the UPS tracking information clicked [ Change Delivery >> ]. One of the options was to hold at a UPS facility — I selected that and it was done. I was able to pick it any time the next day (8:30am-8:45pm) — and they said they would hold it for 5 days. After that the UPS tracking information told me
A UPS My Choice® delivery change was requested for this package. / The receiver arranged to pick up the package at a UPS facility

Simple to change and I had no problems picking it up yesterday (you need a government-issued ID — e.g. driver's license).

I had it sent to my local UPS hub which is close to where I live. They also listed local UPS stores, but the package won't be delivered to the stores until later in the day (so I hear).

I was home all day but my doorbell is broken and I was afraid I'd miss their knock. It was a lot less hassle for me to just go down to UPS and pick it up (plus I could actually have it in my hands earlier).

I probably should mention that I requested the hold soon after I received the UPS Choice notice. Once it arrives at the UPS hub and throw it on the truck, I think it won't be available for pickup until the truck gets back from its daily rounds.
