Can anyone recommend a good but not too expensive (under $100 if possible) UPS/battery backup? For some reason the power at my house has become a lot less reliable lately, and this morning was the 3rd morning this week I woke up to find the power went out and knocked out my iMac. I'm worried that one of these days, a surge will either kill my computer, or I'll be working on something that hasn't been saved and then I'll be up a creek. Thanks.
If the power is bad, the line conditioning UPS's with AVR would likely work better than a cheap UPS/battery backup without it. We tell people to get the AVR, and they see that this feature in marginally more than a cheap UPS -- so they buy a cheap battery backup power strip and come back to complain about the cheap battery backup they bought is not working. Brownouts and fluctuating power might not be enough to trip the cheap UPS/battery backup systems ... and the computer still get shut off.
