So I placed an order for a Macbook about ten days ago. It shipped on Monday this week. The Macbook was ready to ship already over the weekend but they didn't ship it and that's understandable. Come Monday, I get this,

SHIPPER TENDERED THE SHIPMENT TO UPS AFTER THE LATEST PICKUP TIME FOR THE REQUESTED SERVICE. A DAY DELAY IS LIKELY.

and then this,

THE AIRLINE OFF-LOADED PACKAGES CAUSING A DELAY

I guess it all sorted out in the end as come Wednesday, it got stuck in Ontario for:

PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE

A day later it cleared and apparently was on it's way. But, it's in Transit from Kentucky. I live in Canada, why does my Macbook have to clear customs and then go to the states again?

Now today, on the UPS tracking page, they removed that whole Kentucky thing and now it's back in Ontario, with this again,

PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE

I need some advice on what I can do to speed up this thing. It's been 5 days since it shipped and it hasn't even reached my door. I chose to pay extra for the expedited shipping but I guess that doesn't even seem to help at all.

Shipping outside the country takes a little more time. Just be patient.

Heck, I live in the States, and it still took a week for my SRMB to arrive.

I'm in the exact same position as you. I ordered about a week ago. Let me tell you one thing: UPS's ORDER STATUS IS F'D UP. The Kentucky thing happened as well, it appeared/disappared. The airline delay in the beginning as well.

UPS is full of ****, honestly. I paid for expedited, and its already been 5 days. This is an absoloute joke. Anyways, their Database is messed up, or at least the status page. Things reappear/disappear randomly throughout the day. Don't take it seriously. My hole status disappaered for 4 hours (it was "back in china", yeah right) then it came back. Current status (has been for 3 days, wtf?):

MOUNT HOPE ,ON, CA
16/11/2007 5:43 IMPORT SCAN
16/11/2007 4:50 ARRIVAL SCAN

They have pissed me off beyond belief, its so absurd to think that I paid extra for this crap.

exact same thing happened to me, and i also live in ontario (toronto to be exact). it was stated to arrive on friday and then due to the TWO delays in china, i wont be seeing it until monday, but probly tuesday. why it has to go through alaska and kentucky and hamilton (mount hope), clearing customs and various other things multiple times before settling in toronto is beyond me

also interesting, i selected free shipping, and my printer showed up early this week. my mac on the other hand, is getting expedited shipping to my house from china, even though i didnt pay. but yeah since the apple delivery date was friday and ups is saying not till tuesday, you think i can get some form of compensation from apple?

funny how we're all in the same boat. at least all our macs are on the same plane

I have had nightmares shipping things to canada through UPS. they have to go through a broker, and it's just a total mess. whenever i ship to canada i always use united states postal service... oh well. I waited 7 weeks to get my MBP...

something similar happened to me. called ups at least 3 times before the day my mbp was supposed to get here each time they told me it was garenteed to come on the monday. i even called that morning and i was told i garenteed to have it. i call later in the afternoon when the mbp wasn't ariving and they tell me that it's garenteed tmrw. i was so pissed off

dude honestly the only thing you can do is wait

It could be worse, FedEx left my PowerBook sitting on the doorstep to my house. Thankfully it was still there when I got home.

Funny how they left a $2,000 laptop lay out in the open, but refused to drop off a keyboard without me being there to sign for it...

I once asked UPS why they leave things on porches or doorsteps, seeing as the company I work for uses UPS. They told me that if it is a "safe neighborhood" they can leave it. If i were you, if you paid for the shipping. i would politely call Apple and explain the situation, then request a refund for the expidited shipping if you paid for it. also if they leave a computer with out a signature i would call apple and tell them, because most companies require signature for computers. which i am sure apple does, that is important for a company to know.

if your computer is nearby and u don't want to wait for UPS. you usually can get permission to pick it up from the hub. call ups tell them you want to pick it up from the hub or nearest UPS store and usually they'll let you, sometimes they will say you need permission from the shipper...

For UPS - if at ANY time your tracking has ANY errors or if your package takes longer than the guaranteed time (next day, 2nd day, etc.) you can get a full refund of the shipping price.

if you paid nothing for shipping but there were delays that got it delivered past the delivery date apple promised, think i can score any $$$ out of it?

Funny you mention that, FedEx would have left it on my doorstep as well. They do the knock and run thing, love it. I run to the door and he's halfway down the walk. I signed for it but yet I ordered some random game and they refused to leave it, even after I left a note telling them to leave it.

To the OP. UPS is not trying to screw you over. Get a refund on your shipping and just be patient.

So to get a refund on shipping, do you ask Apple (since you paid them and they paid UPS) or do you ask UPS directly (since they messed up?)

UPS is a joke. I refuse to buy things from places that only ship UPS. At least in the states It would be illegal to block any shipment from going out via the post. Thats how I was able to get my Timbuk2 bag.

UPS sucks all the way.

Sadly yes. the idea that UPS has is that Apple paid for the shipping and Apple should reimburse you, then they can make a claim to UPS. It's their way of making sure they get to keep the money. UPS is not trying to screw you over, at the same time they are also not trying to not screw you.

Hi I had the exact same thing took 8 business days to arrive went shanghai-alaska-kentucky-new york-ontario-vancouver. Made a retarded trip around the whole continent. I called apple they refunded my shipping. UPS is a total joke of a delivery service guaranteed in 3 days actually means expect it within 6-8 days.

An old thread but I had to reply because I find my computer's journey very funny.

I stumbled upon this thread because I had no idea where Mount Hope, ON was - Now that I know that it's Hamilton, this is even funnier. Here is the path my MacBook has travelled through the UPS system...

LOUISVILLE, KY to
BUFFALO, NY to
MOUNT HOPE, ON to
FREDERICTON, NB back to
MOUNT HOPE, ON to
KITCHENER, ON

As I live near Kitchener, I suspect that I will get it today (yay) - but my goodness, why send it out to New Brunswick first?! Can you say OOPS!

-Dave.

I live in Quebec, Canada and I ordered a 27" iMac on November 13, and took expedited shipping for an extra 43$.

By the 15th, I called Apple just to know how much time it could take before my mac ships. Without any complaint or anything, the agent I talked to told me that since it's a new product, they didn't know how much time it would take, so she offered to refund me the expedited shipping costs (43$), but still leave it on my order, so when it would be ready, it would stil ship faster.

By the 16th, my iMac was ready to ship (weepee!), and I almost pee my pants with joy.

18th; I wake up and check my order status: Exception. I call UPS and they said they put it "in the wrong postal box" in Shangaï, and that they gotta start all over again. At this time, I should have been smarter and tell to the woman I was spoking to that ok, they did a mistake, and now they will do something to resolve it so I would be happy (that means asking them to switch my shipping mode to...a ultimate one I guess? Like 24hrs worldwide shipping?) but I didn't and hang up politely.

As of today, I'm still waiting for it. They say it will arrive tomorrow but I doubt it, as it just departed from Mt Hope, and will probably go through Lachine's UPS office before it comes to me like wednesday or thursday, if not friday...or even next week.

UPS are weak and whack. I hate them.

I just stumbled on to this thread trying to find out where mount hope is.
I live in toronto and the journey my mac has taken is insane. Order on november 17th i was told it would arrive on the 26th, 2 calls and 2 garauntees that it would arrive today, november 30th. Still waiting.
MOUNT HOPE, ON
MISSISSAUGA, ON,
LOUISVILLE, KY, US
ANCHORAGE, AK, US
INCHEON, KR
CHEK LAP KOK, HK
PAMPANGA, PH
SHANGHAI, CN

Note that I live about a 15 minute drive from the ups facility in mississauga. I work in the air industry and i know that jet fuel is not cheap. There is no way that they could possibly be making any profit from shipping computers if this is the route they take on a regular basis.
Way to go UPS.

I just Googled this and got here. So I guess this happens to everyone. I can't believe the round about way UPS takes to get here. Mine has gone from Shanghi, to Japan, to Alaska, flys right over my head to the other side of the continent to Kentuky, Buffalo, now in Mount Hope (sorry I am losing hope not gaining it). No UPS update all day. If I hadn't been without a computer for 3 weeks now working on a PC with windows 2000 as a temporary solution I may not be so anxious. But I live in B.C., why fly to the east coast when you are already on the west coast.

I sure hope it doesn't go to new brunswick next. At least I am not alone in my woes.

If it doesn't come within a week, I would call apple. If nothing comes out of that, send a polite email to sjobs@apple.com, and they will probably reimburse you in some way.

I think people are starting to abuse this whole "email sjobs" deal. Call apple, they will handle it. And fast, since its the holidays!

Funny how no one has mentioned the rather large Winter storm that barreled through the U.S. in the past week. That is the culprit guys, even if your package was not in the path, it was affected. My ram just showed up via Fed-X Ground which is *never* more than 4 days.

It just showed up, after 7 days on the road.
