Why are my photos in iCloud upside down? It's fine in my phone.

Let me rephrase this question, Why are my photos in My Photo Stream upside down or sideways on my computer? It's okay on my phone.

That's why. You're most likely viewing using a tool or system which ignores the orientation EXIF info.

This is why I always shoot photos on the iPhone in landscape with the lens on the top 🙂
