    Here's the situation ...

I have one unlocked 1G iPhone synched to my laptop. My sister has a iPhone 3G sycnhed to a Windows laptop through iTunes. I have no idea where the contacts on a PC get stored.

She wants to take my unlocked iPhone on a trip to Asia leaving tonight and leave the 3G with me. (I'm here in the States now and don't need the 3G unlocked)

So ... what's my workflow going to be? Setting up her 3G for me shouldn't be an issue. I can attach it to my MBP and resycnh all the info (even if it wipes it) right?

How do I get HER info -- mainly contacts - into my old iPhone. Again, I don't think she has contacts saved anywhere on her PC so I don't think I can hook up my phone and set it up as new ...

    Thanks for your help ..

    Vespoli,

That's the point. As far as I can tell there is no contacts program on the PC. I can't tell what's happening when she synchs with iTunes.

    Hmm.

I'm trying to recall what exactly I did when I set up Google Sync because, until recently, I worked on a PC.

In fact, I think -- and you'll probably want to test this -- you can just add a Sync account on your sister's iPhone and use it to push her contacts to the Internet. This would then allow you to pull them back down on any iPhone or view them on Google's servers.

This would not require any export.

So you're saying make a temporary gmail email account. Set it up on the iPhone, synch contacts from her 3G to Google and then synch it back down to MY old one.

BTW, when I attach her 3G to my MBP, I can just wipe it, update the software and then synch my iTunes to it right?

You may just want to add another user to your MBP and allow her to sync on her own side of things. Just a thought.

Too complicated. I did as vespoli suggested. Connected her locked 3 G to her PC. Made a google account and sent her contacts to google.

I have mobileme. I'm going to delete my mobileme account from MY unlocked 1G.

    Then ..

    1. Set up gmail on my phone and bring her contacts down.

    2. Set up mobileme on her phone and bring my contacts down.

    This should work, right?

    just to confirm ...

Software on my iTunes is 2.2

When I attach her locked 3G to MY iTunes, it will basically reformat it, right?

I can then install 2.2 and sycnh my music, photos, contacts and applications. Her phone should then be a locked 2.2

Actually, as I type this.. The ipsw I have isn't for 3G. I'm going to have to download a 3g version

This is turning out to be a PITA. would I be better off unlocking her 3G on the PC?

Whew. Got it done. Thanks Vespoli!

What I ended up doing was connecting her 3G to her PC and synched the contacts to google. I then deleted all my info from my 2G including apps, contacts etc. Set up a gmail exchange account on my 2G for her that brought down all her contacts. So she's set.

For me ... I connected the locked 3G to my MBP and upgraded it to 3.0. Reshced my apps, music and photos and got my info in using .Mac (I refuse to call it MobileMe)

Don't know if I was over thinking this but something fairly simple took a bloody long time to do because of this iTunes synch to one computer limitation.
