They should work. The only possible problem would be if they were engineering samples, the listing does not say that they are not, although it isn't likely they would be.

Yes they are, I have a pair of X5677 in mine, I have a 2009 though so had to get them delidded first.

Absolutely 0.00001% chance they would be engineering samples.

The part number listed in the description is NOT for engineering samples. I have these in my 5,1 and they work GREAT!

^^^^I'm confused - You did just that earlier this year. There are a couple of inaccuracies, though overall, it's quite good.

To the OP did you order yet? I just ordered a pair as well to upgrade my 2009 4,1. I figure faster single core speeds are more important to me then multi core for what I do, so the savings are worthwhile over hex processors.

And with 8 cores (16 threads) you'll hardly be impoverished for multi-core, to say the least.

I'm jealous of the dual-socket cMP owners being able to get such a bargain with these X5677s.

cMP supports an 8 core processor? I thought the x5690's are the best available?

They are! But the X5677 is the same speed (3.46 Ghz) but with 4 cores vs 6 for the X5690. If you don't need 12 cores, if 8 is enough for what you do (it is for me) than the X5677s fit the bill. Both are the fastest chips available that will run on the cMP.

Thanks everyone.

I did make the order in the end, also I have had food poisoning since that evening so that's why I've not responded on here. In fact it's still affecting me.

Thanks to everyone again for the help!

Got mine, delidded and finally finished installing today. Have to confess that I ended up buying 3 processors as I screwed up on de-lidding one of them. At least these are cheap enough that it doesn't matter that much, although I still kicked myself a few times!

Looking good so far, Geekbench scores are single core 2801 and multi-core 22090.

Temps are currently 44 C and 42 C, fairly idle as I type this.

I'm happy.

Someone should compile a list of every verified CPU for the Mac Pro and make it a sticky at the top of the forum.

Nah no one would read it.

Another point in favor of the X5677 is that the price of the X5690 has increased. In early 2015 I paid about $150 for a X5690 off eBay. Now they are up to $225-250, probably because the supply is dwindling.
