I have to correct myself: i am not sure if at06 means the exact same haswell model!
I would always take the haswell over the older model.

If he means the haswell then 1080,- with apple care is too good to be true.
I have to check the uk apple store....

UK Edu Store quotes 1312,- for his model with apple care.
1080,- doesnt sound right to me.

You get a higher discount if your a University student. I can PM you the link if you want - message me if you want it.

must be a unique feature in the uk.
here theres only one edu discount.
1080,- for 8/256 wit apple care is insane.

i payed 1890€ for mine but not with apple care but 4 year warranty + insurance against accidents and theft.
apple care only covers hardware failures and support!

It is a pretty good discount - I think it came about because all the schools/universities teamed together and approached Apple and other manufacturers to negotiate discounts for students.

I can confirm that the 256GBSSD/8GB memory 13 inch haswell macbook pro is £1074 direct online or £1062 in store. However, in store the 3 year extended applecare costs £49 whereas "free" in the online version.

Return it and go through one of these options if you can - definitely worth it.

Y does everybody else anywhere else have to pay so much.
Thats really extreme!

For £200 extra I was getting 8GB ram and I think or 256GB SSD over the 128GB or maybe it was only the ram upgrade. The processor remained the same. I was stuck between the two options. I'm thinking of going back and making the switch. I'm hoping the 13.3" is good for my eyes.

It's just the RAM that's preventing me from opening it. I want to be sure I bought the right laptop.

I haven't opening the packaging yet. It's still plastic sealed.

I would recommend you take it back. Either go for the 256Gb SSD with 8Gb of RAM, or wait and see what Apple do next year seeing as you don't need it right now.

What do you mean...in comparison to other countries?
I tend to think the same when I see the standard US price of the 8/256 at $1499 (£936) - goodness knows that US students can buy them for - probably the same price as a few tins of beans!!

I know theres tax etc etc etc but...

1410,- € without apple care here in germany :(

You should see the price in scandinavia and south america.

I am, I'm buying off the website with student discount. I actually don't need it till sept 2014, but I can't really be bothered to use a cheap net book till then. Also it will motivate me to work harder to get grades to qualify for a £1500 scholarship at my uni to cover the expenses for an upgrade haha.

I paid £1298.00 in the store where I got 4GB ram/128 flash. On the website with student discount I'm getting the same model with 8GB ram/256gb flash and 2.6ghz processor (I added this for £68, is this worth it. Heck is the i7 thing worth it, it's still well cheaper). Is this good.

assuming you are quoting the the non-student price, here in the UK is £1249 without applecare - i make that roughly €1445

if thats the student price...well...

They r talking about 1080 pounds.
The non student price in germany is 1500€.
I paid 390 for the insurance but thats my own decision. Apple care doesnt cut it for me. I commute a lot!

In the UK, the maximum student discount you can get for each model is as follows:

- 13" Retina, 128Gb, 4Gb RAM, 2.4GHz i5 - £945.60
- 13" Retina, 256Gb, 8Gb RAM, 2.4GHz i5 - £1074.00
- 13" Retina, 512Gb, 8Gb RAM, 2.6GHz i5 - £1288.80
- 15" Retina, 256Gb, 8Gb RAM, 2.0GHz i7 - £1443.60
- 15" Retina, 512Gb, 16Gb RAM, 2.3GHz i7, Nvidia GT750M, £1869.60

These all include a 3 year AppleCare warranty.

It roughly equates to a 15% discount, or around 18% if you count the AppleCare you get.

No its 2.4ghz.
I thought u paid 1099,-

Not worth it. In daily use, you won't notice a difference. On the rare occasions you have to do something truly CPU-limited that takes several minutes to complete, the difference would just be a few seconds.

You're better off taking that £68, buying a few bottles of wine or something and having friends over. You'll get much more enjoyment and utility out of that than a CPU upgrade you'd never actually notice.

Final questions, is the 8GB ram bang on or should I pay more for 16GB.
Also is the 2.4ghz decent or is it worth paying for the 2.6ghz? Or even the 2.8 i7 or is it a waste of money?
I want this to last 2 years tops, and just a fast system in general.

Also is the screen sufficient in size? I went in and saw it but didn't focus on it.

Thanks

Brilliant, absolute legends on here, especially the lad who sent me the link.

Saved me 400 quid and even better specs.

This is with apple care.

The 2.4Ghz is perfect. The improvement with the faster processors is not worth it for what your using it for.

8GB is plenty ram.

I have the 2.4/8gb/256. It's a really great machine. I can have 10 tabs open in Safari, along with SPSS statistics, Graphpad, Excel, Word and Powerpoint, Spotify and VLC playing 1080P movies and it doesn't break a sweat!
I find the 13" fine.

It will last you 6 years for what you want it for, not to mind 2. The one you have already would last you 3 years at least not to mention the 8GB ram and the 256 SSD.

Are you guys 10000000% sure this is good for me? 2.4ghz/8gbram/256, first ever Mac I've bought. I believe I can't change after my purchase which I why i want it to be perfect and have no regrets.

Buy online then; after you get your money back ofcourse.

Just 2 years? Just stick with the 8GB and keep the 2.4GHz. Screen is fine.

8 is plenty.

2.4 is plenty. I just posted above, but I think you were posting at the same time and might've missed it. and now I see you've edited in a response.

2.4 / 8 / 256 is going to be great. The only people for whom it makes sense to upgrade to 2.6/16 are those who will be earning money directly based on how fast their computer runs.

Also is the screen sufficient in size? I went in and saw it but didn't focus on it.
The size is fine, highly portable, and with the retina screen you can set the resolution to look like 1440x900 or even higher, which gets you a lot of real estate.
