Can anyone recommend a free application that will compare the contents of two files? Thanks!
What types of files? Compare them and do what?
Text based files just to show me the differences
Not free, but if you have Acrobat (not Reader)
Save the files as PDFs and use Acrobat/Document/Compare
Unfortunately, it's not available in the free, Reader version.
If you don't have a copy maybe you know someone that has it, that can do the compare.
It's called diff. Been around for ages. "man diff" at the command prompt to view the manual page.
Google could have easily given you this answer lol.
Went with DiffMerge
So you downloaded and installed something new, instead of just using the proven file compare tool that's already on your system? Whatever floats your boat I guess...
Yeah, what was the point of asking?
Anyway, the one that comes with the system comes part of the developer package under Developer -> Applications -> Utilities -> Filemerge. It's a brilliantly simple app.
Because I was unaware of that tool in the Developer Tools. Why would I want to install a massive Developer Tools system to use just one program unless I can just install that app?
