You don't need to buy Applecare until the 364th day of owning your mac - unless you want phone support - in that case, but it as soon as you need phone support.

you still have to pay taxes no matter where you get it. If Apple has a retail outlet in your state - you pay taxes.

No, not always. I live in Massachusetts. There are 2 or 3 Apple Stores here. I go to New Hampshire, which has no sales tax. Anything I buy there is not taxed.

Technically, I'm supposed to pay the tax here. And, um, er, being a good citizen, well, uh, of course I pay it.... *** fingers crossed behind back ***

But the Apple Store never charges me. And they know where I live - they always ask the ZIP code whenever I buy anything.

Perhaps a reason for some to buy AppleCare at time of purchase instead of later.
