Hey guys I am creating a website and would love to buy a domain for it. However my question is, is 22 characters to long for a url? I think it is a tad to much but can't find a way to abbreviate it,as they are all taken? Any suggestions?

The domain I am thinking of purchasing is theinternationalsystem.com and the web site is about my thoughts on international relations / politics.

    Thanks :)

URL length isn't overly relevant anymore. Most people reach sites through clicking on links from search results or the like. It's rare for a person to actually type the URL itself. So I'd say what you have picked out is fine and is something that's easy to remember, which is what's really important. Well and of course good content. :)

    'Tis true

That and making it a bookmark/favorite once they find it

It isn't cryptic or difficult, so you should be fine

How about non .com addresses, such as .net, and .org?

FWIW, "TheIntSys" in .com, .net, and .org, is available.

    Agree with this.

Well ideally I would like to buy TheSystem.com/net. I just think that if I bought theintsys.com people might not remember it as much as the longer version.

I want something short I guess but memorable at the same time.

TheInternationalSystem.com is growing on me now though.

    Probably true.

Just throwing it out there for an idea.

    To me, this sounds fine.

And if you want to protect it, register the .net and .org of the same and have them point to the .com address.

Sounds like a nice website idea, looking forward to seeing it up.

Edit: Whoops, I didn't notice it was up lol. I like the look and the content looks interesting - can't wait to see more.

I'd suggest being careful if ever in this same position. Having posted the actual domain you hadn't purchased is pretty risky, as anyone who happened across the thread could have sniped it from you. I would have hated to get to the end of the thread, only to find out someone had beaten you to registration.

I thought the same thing when I read the original post, but didn't want to jinx him :)
