Usa 1.1.2?

Hi i have a freind in the usa at the moment what software is comeing pre installed on the iphone at the moment in the us.

if it is still 1.1.1 how long till the update comes out as i need the phone to be 1.1.1.

If i get it back and its a 1.1.2 can i still use it as a touch untill it gets unlocked onto all networks.
