My mac pro is over three years old. When I look at "about Mac" I can't tell if it has 3.0 or not. My hunch is it does not since it is over three years. My question is: Can a three year old Mac Pro have usb 3.0?

You'd need to add a card to get USB 3.0.

You know, that thread needs to be a sticky. There are now several solutions for USB 3.0 for the MacPro, but the miscellaneous threads keep popping up.

    Just my 2¢

Okay, you obviously misread my post. I was saying that THAT particular thread should be made into a STICKY. Currently it is not. Also if you read through that thread you will see that I have contributed MANY of the posts.

My point is, if they would make THAT THREAD into a sticky, perhaps newcomers would use it to find the desired information rather than make a new thread every time.

I'm well aware of the USB 3.0 solutions available, I have three different USB 3.0 cards for the MacPro which ALL function perfectly. In fact, I have 2 of them installed in one machine with both working great.

Go back and read my original post in this thread and you will see that you have misread it.

Since we're splitting hairs, it IS an opion. Not one offered by Apple but certainly an option.

An option is something that is on installed by the manufacture. An aftermarket accessory is what you are talking about.

    From http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/option:

    op·tion noun \ˈäp-shən\
: the opportunity or ability to choose something or to choose between two or more things

: something that can be chosen :a choice or possibility

: a right to buy or sell something for a specified price during a specified period of time

After I got my Mac Pro, I chose to have USB 3 installed and did so. You, too, have the option of installing USB 3, if you choose.

I also have added an aftermarket USB 3.0 card to my Mac Pro 3,1 but USB 3.0 is not an option from the factory. You can think of it the same way as when you order a new vehicle from the manufacture.
