I have the USB 2.0 version of the drive you speak of. Slow. As. Molasses.

I used to have the FW version.

If it had cost me more than the 130.00 I paid for it, I'd be pissed..
Better late than never. I get 17-22 MB read/write on my 200 GB Maxtor One Touch II USB 2.0. It's not THAT bad.

Does anyone know where I can find a user manual for the NewerTech miniStack? I always like to read up on a product before I actually get it.

I bought 2 ministacks for my mac minis and they sucked. Every time I transfered a large file they would freeze up. I tried everything. Replaced the drives, tried the usb vs the firewire, tried on different macs same thing. They sat around for over a month before I tried calling OWC about the problem. I tried to return them. Then after a long conversation about returning them I was given to a tech who might be able to help me. He sent me some java app for updating the firmware or something and bam the problem was fixed. The java app was crap and didn't work properly so I had to call back to have him walk me throught the HACKS to use it but it worked.

If you buy the ministack make sure the firmware is updated or they include it. I am kind of pissed at them for not notifying their customers about this issue. Went through alot of hell with those things.

Hey thanks for the heads up. ;) When I bought mine I noticed it said "New!" on the top and it had a USB and FireWire port on the left side. Hopefully they updated the firmware. Thanks again.

Talking of controllers. I have jst done my maths to my post, and it is near to 400Mbps transfer. I use a Western Digital Media Centre external HDD, must have a decent controller.

Worth getting a Firewire 800 cable?

The miniStack came today. The outside seems to be made kinda crappy, but i like the thing overall. fireWire is definitely faster. ;)
