USB 3.0 or NOT

I'm planning to get an external hard drive for my New MacBook Air. Should I really get a USB 3.0 or not? Does MBA support USB 3.0?

I found contradictory information and wanted to check what others think.

No current Mac has USB 3.0, but if you want to maybe one day buy a USB 3.0 capable computer, you might be better off with the USB 3.0 HDD.

Btw, Apple does say the following on its official presentation of the MacBook Air's technical specifications page:

USB - Two USB 2.0 ports (up to 480 Mbps)

It doesn't support USB 3 but if you plan on upgrading your computer before you replace the HD it may be worth buying the USB 3 one since it may be added later.
