USB Bus Power Drain/Disk failure

Hi, got myself a 15/2.4/i5 1680x1050, running 10.6.3
The USB bus 0xfa, the one next to the SD card slot, keeps dropping a LaCie 500 Gig disk after I mounted it, and appears to run at half speed.
Any idea how to fix that? Cheers!
