I am looking to use this device for hdmi to tv and usb a to external dac ( dragonfly black). The hdmi functions as expected. The dac however is not. I can select it in sound as output in system preferences however sound is not being passed through to dragonfly. Sound is being processed internally and passed to amplifier. Have tried reattaching dongle, restarting music app. Using MacBook Pro 13 2017, Monterey os. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming you're referring to this adapter?
And if you're referring to the USB-C port on that adapter, it can only be used for pass-thru charging, not for data.
