USB-C Dock Issue w/ External Monitor

I have this USB-C dock from Iogear

Connected to it I have a mini display port to hdmi cable going to my external monitor. Often my 2017 Macbook Pro will work with the lid closed and wakes so long as I have the ac adapter also plugged into the dock.

Every now and then nothing I do gets it to work and it does not show on my external monitor. The odd thing is if I open the lid to my macbook the wallpaper is the stock Macos wallpaper which is not my normal desktop....so it has to be registering something.

I have tried power cycling the macbook and everything to no avail tonight.

This happened to me. If the desktop wallpaper is different than what you set it as, that means it's basically reading it as a new mac or display configuration. That I did, was bought the newes and most direct cable. Got rid of any adapter, display port, or anything that is't USB c to HDMI or similar. Had np issues since.
