Hi lads,

having now received the new Macbook Air, I'm trying to find a Gamepad that charges via USB-C and has good driver support.

I likely won't install Steam, I only want to play a hand full of games I download from GOG (Cuphead an Hollow Knight) and test my own game within the Godot game engine.

Any recommendations? Has anyone tested the Switch Pro Controller in MacOS?

Are you willing to be patient?

My understanding is that Apple is adding PS5 DualSense controller support in the upcoming iOS 14.3 (it's apparently functional in the 14.3 beta). It is expected that macOS Big Sur will get DualSense controller support since Apple provided good support for the DualShock controller.

At least wired, macOS Mojave on my Mac mini 2018 currently recognizes the DualSense as a generic gamepad.

While naturally I have not tried all gamepads, the consensus is that the DualSense will be the gold standard for game controllers for years to come.

I bought the PS5 DualSense controller primarily for use with my custom build Windows gaming PC. Developers at Steam are feverishly working to add support to the Steam desktop client (much of its functionality is available in a beta version). That's pretty darned respectable for a gamepad that only started selling a couple of weeks ago.

My expectation is that Steam will release a public version of their Windows desktop client that provides full DualSense support by Christmas.

It remains to be seen when third-party game developers will start taking full advantage of all of the DualSense features (touchpad, adaptive triggers, advanced haptics).

Hey bud, I bought the PS5 DualSense controller on your recommendation and it's BRILLIANT.

In MacOS, I still have to use it wired, but I don't even care, it just feels so good to hold.
I play mostly Hollow Knight and that's supported out of the box.

The driver behaviour is still all over the place, but as long as I can play Hollow Knight, I don't really care.

As I predicted Steam has updated the public version of their desktop client to provide support for the PS5 DualSense gamepad. Note that this is on all three platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux).

Users may be able to take advantage of the DualSense compatibility on some non-Steam titles if they are added to the user's Steam Library (lower left corner) and the game is launched via the Steam client and the game supports the Steam Input API.

It looks like my Logitech Gamepad F310 is headed to the closet!
