@theluggage the new Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad can manage multiple bluetooth connections. Mines a really old Magic Keyboard and Trackpad. The first iteration of the flat ones (without the cylindrical back bit).

It's just another reason I need to update.

But I want to wait for the USB-C versions before I do.
How does it work with multiple connections? How does it detect the active device? Still have the old silver trackpa, would be interested to know.

It doesn't exist. @OliverFoggin is making stuff up. Here's what ChatGPT had to say about quickly switching those Apple keyboards:

Q: can apple's current bluetooth keyboards easily switch the connec tion between multiple computers

A: Apple’s current Bluetooth keyboards, like the Magic Keyboard, do not natively support easily switching between multiple computers directly on the keyboard itself. However, you can switch the connection manually by following these steps:

1. Unpair and Re-pair: To switch between devices, you would need to unpair the keyboard from one device and then pair it with the other. This can be done by going into the Bluetooth settings of the current device and removing the keyboard, then turning on Bluetooth on the second device and pairing the keyboard.

2. Use of Third-Party Solutions: If you want to switch between multiple devices more easily, you might consider using third-party software solutions like Logitech’s Flow (if you use a Logitech keyboard) or Synergy, which allows seamless switching between computers using a single keyboard and mouse setup.

3. Keyboard with Multiple Device Pairing: Some third-party keyboards (like those from Logitech) come with the ability to pair with multiple devices (usually 3) and switch between them with dedicated buttons. If you frequently switch between devices, one of these keyboards might be a more practical choice.

In summary, while Apple’s Magic Keyboard can technically be used with multiple computers, the process of switching isn’t as seamless or quick as it could be with other keyboards designed for multi-device use.

Oliver: if you think you can quickly switch between multiple devices on the current Magic Keyboard and Trackpad, please point us to the Apple Support document that says how to do that. If you were mistaken, please just say that. Thanks!

I really want to get a Magic Trackpad but I have a rule set for my desk: nothing other than USB A / USB C so I am desperately waiting for Apple to release the new one.
