Should i get multiple USB-C dongles or a dock/hub for my new MBA 2019?

Coming from my old 2017, I thought it was defiantly time to upgrade, now MBA had Retina that i missed by about 1 year.

So now, i'm in dilemma,.... USb 3 hard drives (x2), and USB flash drives (x2)..

Rather than constantly keep plugging/unplugging them constantly, i initially got 1 dongle (which by the way, it didn't take me long to realize these USB-C dongle ain't gonna last that long), I thought of getting 4, and either permanently leave them attached to respective devices for use/copying to/from. OR get aone dock/hub which attaches via USB-C to Mac

I looked around and i found 3 USB port (Belkin), but unfortunately, its got a power brick... I wish to keep this on me all the time when my Mac goes, it goes, so having to cart around a external brick as well is not very convenient.

Surly, USB-C can drive 2 or 3 USB ports without external power? or is not only data that's increases throughput? ANy recommendations would be helpful. (aside from replacing everything with USB-C that is..)

There doesn't seem to be that many USB-C 16Gig flash drives anyway from what i can tell.

I remember having one of those miniature USB hubs with 3 USB ports, something like that, except USB-C powered only.

I only really need USB 3 ports.. no HDMI, VGA or anyting else i would't be plugging into

You won't get consistent performance with non-powered USB-C adapters especially when you use them with external drives. The hard drives can lose power halfway during file transfer. Flash drives should be fine. Those powered docks are sold for a reason: consistent performance.

I suggested getting a powered dock that you can use at home. Then a USB-C adapter that you can bring around.
