Apple plans to bring a USB-C port to the standard AirPods and the AirPods Max as soon as 2024, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a new article outlining his specific expectations for Apple's "Wonderlust" event, featuring new details about the Apple Watch Series 9, second-generation Apple Watch Ultra, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Gurman mentioned that the company is apparently working to move all of its Lightning-based accessories to USB-C.

USB-C will come to the AirPods Pro first, with the switch being introduced during Apple's event next week where it is expected to be a key feature of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, followed by the other AirPods models as soon as next year. The new AirPods Pro set to be introduced next week will not offer "any other major new hardware features," Gurman said.

In the long term, Gurman reinforced that Apple is working on bringing health features to its AirPods, including body-temperature sensing and a hearing-test system. These improvements are likely to arrive at some point after the switch to USB-C across the lineup.

Well it has to come to those devices also as the EU mandate covers a wide range of devices, not just phones. So this should not be coming as a surprise.

As SOON(?) as next year? What? How hard is it to change the connector to unify your new products?

But I get it. They need to get rid of old stock.
I think it is more of it being a few years since it launched, so they can't just release AirPods Max (USB-C) without getting a ton of flak for having no other updates/changes.

Honestly, Apple really should have had a massive accessories update concurrent with iPhone making the switch to USB-C.
Release an onslaught of refreshed bits & bobs instead of drip, drip over the next few months.
Better yet, Apple should have a massive accessory trade-up program. AppleTV removes, AirPods charging cases, Magic keyboards and trackpads and mice, and all sorts of Lightning a/v adapters. They should offer users a chance to turn these old accessories in for a trade-up discount on the new equivalent.

For example, a standalone USB-C AppleTV costs remote costs $60. If I buy it, my current remote becomes ewaste. Why? Apple could take my remote and swap it out for a USB-C one for $20, and then refurbish/recycle my remote into a new USB-C remote for someone else. This way, only the lightning connector itself becomes ewaste, and the rest of the remote is recycled or reused.

Cook is a supply chain guy, and drips make more sense from a supply-chain POV. The iPhone releases alone already require heavy lifting in terms of logistics.

The plug I use has 3 ports on their so I don't mind carrying an extra cable. I do that now anyway as I have a Samsung and iOS devices.
But deep down inside, it's gnawing at you and you know you want the new ones. The ones with USB.C, because ligthning is out.
The little man in your head will keep hammering against your ceiling until one day you stand in the Apple Store and put the money on the table.

Apple would need to put respect over profits for its consumers to do the RIGHT THING.

That's not going to happen and its how Apple gets to be worth an incomprehensible 3 trillion dollars while 99% of people make less than 50k a year. Again, the RIGHT THING.
